About SCIP

Way back in 1990, Sir Jimmy Saville had a dream to build a children's hospital in Peterborough. Seeing the subsequent appeal, a group of ladies involved in a small slimming group in Windsor agreed amongst themselves to raise funds for this worthy cause.

Unfortunately the project was axed after 18 months due to lack of funds. The slimming group wanted to donate the funds that they had already raised to a more local cause. After some investigation they came across the newly formed High Wycombe Hospital at Home Unit. A unit formed to help allow treatment of children in the comfort and familiar surrounding of their homes. The group decided that this was a worthy cause for support and 'Save Children in Pain' was born.

Since that time numerous charitable events have been held at regular intervals. The emphasis of these events has been on having fun whilst raising money for a good cause. In 1996 SCIP applied for and obtained it's own number from the Charities Commission.

With new-found independence SCIP now hopes to increase its fund-raising efforts and make donations to a wider range of organisations. Most of the equipment purchased to date has been for the High Wycombe Unit. However, in recent months SCIP has been inviting requests for help from other local organisations. Such requests came from St Peter's Neonatal Unit, Chertsey. After just one event SCIP was able to purchase some urgently required equipment, and more recently has purchased a piece of equipment used to measure blood oxygen levels for £8,800.
